It was such a joy to spend time with Kyle + Leanna on Ios, Greece. These are two of my favorite humans alive because of their ability to be ridiculously, outwardly, unironically joyful — it’s literally impossible to keep from beaming around them, and also engage in the most genuine conversations. I just love them a lot. As far as this photo set goes, I’m reminded that the absolute best couples’ photos include traveling + engaging in an activities that reflect their true personalities and interests. Why you should take activity-based couples or engagement photos on your Greece vacation
I’m so passionate about story-driven photography + videography where we’re intentional about documenting an activity + your actual experience because you don’t want to look back on your life as being one big posed photo-op for Instagram. Kyle + Leanna love fishing (and drinking, ha!!) and I love that they truly look like THEMSELVES in these photos!
Think about how you travel, what you love to do, things you want to try, how we can craft your perfect date while on vacation. We should absolutely build in sessions like this if we’re traveling already to capture a big life event like your elopement or destination wedding!
Engagement photo location ideas in the Cyclades
The Cyclades is an island grouping in the Aegean Sea located southeast of mainland Greece. Every island is stunning in its own way, and you should consider each one for your engagement and wedding photos! While there are technically over 200 islands in this chain, here are a few of our favorite options:
Ios, Greece
Ios, Greece is where we spent most of our time with Kyle + Leanna — they enjoyed the small island’s combination of gorgeous traditional Greece architecture with the iconic white and blue buildings and cobblestone streets and the nightlife/restaurants along the beach.
Santorini, Greece
Santorini, Greece might be one of the most stunning places I’ve ever been — and this is from a well-traveled gal who lives in arguably the most beautiful place on earth (Glacier National Park.) I know people say it’s over-hyped, but they’re just being negative — it’s visited to by a lot of people because it’s just that cool. What I love about Santorini isn’t just the beautiful views and wonderful food, but that there are options for every type of couple’s travel styles and personalities — smaller, quieter, more traditional towns, bustling larger towns with more nightlife, hiking options, shopping, restaurants and cafes, art, the beach, fishing…there’s truly something for everyone.
Mykonos, Greece
Mykonos is thought of as being the “party” island, and for good reason! It’s also gorgeous, so imagine combining day-time activities like sun bathing, hiking, and exploring with more “traditional” engagement + elopement photos and then vibey flash editorial vibes in the eveningt as you dine at one of the delicious restaurants, bar hop, and dance the night away! A freaking dream!
Folegandros, Greece
Folegandros is tinnyyyyy, but STUNNING — I think it would be the PERFECT destination for an “adventure elopement” vibe for your actual ceremony/vows and wedding photos, and then we could go to a different island for more adventuring and regular couples’ photos.
Naxos, Greece
Naxos has some of the best beaches of the Greece Cyclades, as well as some of the best food! I love the idea of spending some time on this island for some adventure before hopping to another one for a destination wedding!
Paros, Greece
Paros is similar to Ios in that it’s a quaint island with a ton of charm and amazing food! It also has incredible windsurfing beaches, cool rock formations, and crystal blue water. You can go around the entire island in less than two hours, so this would be an amazing option to hit up if you’re wanting to see multiple islands on your trip!
