I was SO STOKED when Derek first reached out for me to film + photograph his proposal to his stunning girlfriend Moriah. After a few weeks of secret emails and phone calls, we came up with the perfect plan for him to propose at Sun Point overlooking St. Mary Lake in Glacier National Park — keep reading for their proposal film and photos, and allll of the tips + inspo for planning a proposal in Glacier.

I *love* when the partner planning the proposal opts for videography — having your proposal filmed and photographed tells a complete story, and it allows me to use the footage for your wedding film later on too!! As for Derek and Moriah’s film, you aren’t going to believe what happened hahaha — a full on opera singing tourist started serenading them right when she said yes!! It was so surreal, funny, romantic, out-of-body, ALL THE THINGS. We’ll never forget it. Watch below:

The Proposal at Sun Point in Glacier National Park

We decided on Sun Point for Derek’s proposal to Moriah for a few reasons — Derek wanted epic views for the proposal, I wanted a location with a parking lot + restrooms, and logistically I thought a walk leading up to an OBVIOUS viewpoint to propose would work the best logistically!

It was a STUNNING evening for the proposal!! We got lucky with blue skies, perfect temps, and not too much wind! After spotting Derek and Moriah from our meeting spot on a bench outside the bathrooms, we followed them from a careful distance through the wooded nature trail to the view point.

The proposal itself was beautiful — the pair held hands the whole way to the viewpoint and spoke in whispers, Derek got on one knee after taking in the view, and of course Moriah said yes!

Then, an opera-singing tourist started serenading them — none of us knew what to do, we were shocked. It was like we were in a movie. Later, Derek said he thought I arranged it at first until he saw our shocked faces haha!!

After the proposal, we had a blast doing an evening engagement session with Derek and Moriah in Glacier National Park!

Sun Point Nature Trail Engagement Photos

First, we hiked about a mile on Sun Point Nature Trail overlooking St. Mary Lake and taking in the gorgeous mountains and dead wood. I always recommend building in a little hiking and exploring while in the park!!

Big Bend / Going to the Sun Road Engagement Photos

After the hike, we drove along Going to the Sun Road before ending the beautiful evening at the iconic Big Bend overlook. I *love* Big Bend, it takes my breath away no matter how many times I shoot there, and Derek + Moriah looked stunning in their second outfits.

Derek + Moriah picked two perfect outfits for their summer engagement photos in Glacier National Park. During the proposal, Moriah wore a short white dress and cowboy boots while Derek opted for a plain t-shirt and jeans. For their second outfits, both opted for a more casual fit with jeans.

The logistics of planning a proposal in Glacier National Park

Maybeee you’ve stumbled upon this post because you’re trying to plan your proposal in Glacier National Park. I’ve got you bby!! I totally get that the logistics are a little intimidating, especially if you’re planning long distance and you don’t know where things are haha!! When you book me to film + photograph your proposal, I will help you with location, timing, and planning — here is the final email that I sent Derek as an example of what that looks like after going back and forth with calls and emails to sneakily plan his proposal to Moriah:

5:00 PM: Derek + Moriah enter the west entrance of GNP for a scenic drive on Going to the Sun Road, ending up at Sun Point for a short hike. I feel like this will be easy to frame for Moriah as a nice evening activity haha! "Sun Point" parking lot is on Apple Maps!! See attached; the app says 1 hour 45 minutes from West Glacier, but I'm allotting two hours for traffic + construction. Either way, we are planning to enter the park 60 minutes ahead of you, so no matter what happens we will be waiting for you in the parking lot with plenty of time!

7:00 PMish: Arrive at Sun Point parking lot. It is a large parking lot, just find parking where you see it. Tell Moriah you have to go to the bathroom before the hike and that's where we'll be waiting for you! (Attached: family pic of us) Don't stress it if she has to go too -- we can just say hey really quick when she goes in the restroom. No rush to make a decision now, but think about if you want us to mic you up under your shirt to get the audio of you proposing. If so, please wear an undershirt or a necklace so I have something to clip it to without her seeing!

We will follow you at a comfortable distance through the nature trail -- quickly, at the bottom of the hill, you'll come to a wooden sign. You'll take a left toward Sun Point; it's impossible to miss. It's a five-ish minute walk to the iconic viewpoint!

Once you get out of the trees and see the amazing view, I don't want you to worry about us or stress about background options. Lead Moriah to wherever feels right, take your time, talk, take in the views -- when you get on one knee, we'll be ready. Andddd: This area has so many amazing backgrounds and views, we will have plenty of time to take amazing engagement photos after!

HOW TO GET HER TO DRESS CUTE -- she'll thank me later haha:

*If you dress nicely when getting ready then she might just match your vibe without a discussion!

*Maybe pack a picnic and just say it's a date night? Re-assure her that you read it's a super short nature trail so she doesn't feel like she has to be in hiking gear? If you go the picnic route, don't stress about us haha we'll stay away and just be vigilant for when the moment happens!

*If she insists on wearing athleisure then pleaseeee do ya girl a favor and stuff a dress in your hiking backpack for after the proposal haha!
