College Senior Photo Inspo: Jaden’s Montana Tech Winter Senior Session

College Senior Photo Inspo: Jaden’s Montana Tech Winter Senior Session

Introduction

OMG Jaden is literally the cutest person on the planet —  we had the best time taking her senior photos at Georgetown Lake, Montana and on Montana Tech’s campus in Butte. Keep reading for some good ol’ Montana college senior photo inspo.

Meet Jaden — Montana Tech Senior

Jaden is an environmental engineering major at Montana Tech in Butte, Montana. She is seriously the best —  f*cking hilarious, bubbly, athletic, and super fun to be around. She wanted photos to commemorate/announce her graduation from tech, and wanted a combination of photos in nature and photos on campus at her school.

Senior photos on a frozen mountain lake

We started Jaden’s session at Georgetown Lake, a mountain lake located between Philipsburg and Anaconda. The lake was frozen over and we were treated to a super sunny afternoon!

I love lakes and mountain scenery for Montana senior portraits because they reflect the Montana lifestyle/experience so well andddd obviously it’s a stunning location option.

Taking senior photos on campus!

We ended Jaden’s senior session on Montana Tech’s campus. The old buildings/neutral tones were perfect for headshots!

Where to take your winter senior portraits in Montana

Campus

Your college campus is a PERFECT location for senior photos! We’re documenting a really specific season in your life, so we might as well show the context. Even if you don’t think your campus is very aesthetically pleasing, just remember that it’s all about framing and creativity. I’ve got you!

Book your senior shoot for:

  • Montana State University —  Bozeman

  • University of Montana —  Missoula

  • Montana Tech —  Butte

  • University of Montana Western —  Dillon

  • Providence University —  Great Falls

  • Montana State University Northern —  Havre

  • MSU-B — Billings

  • Rocky Mountain College —  Billings

Showcase your major!

Alsoooo, it could be fun to showcase your major somehow! Like, we can go to a classroom if you’re going to be a teacher, or a lab if you were a science major, or business majors can wear a blazer at a co-working space. Let’s get creative with it.

Your favorite college dive bar!

Try and tell meeee that fun flash photos w/ your best friends at the local dive bar wouldn’t be the coolest vibe!? LET’S DO IT.

Downtown

Photos downtown are always a great option, and would likely pair well with a campus or dive bar session!

At your college house/dorm with your roomies (lifestyle shoot)

A lifestyle shoot at your college house or dorm would be so cool! Leave it messy + have a blast with your roommates. A pizza party, shots, slumber party vibes —  let’s think outside the box!

Nature

Of course, locations in nature are ALWAYS a fave! If you need help scouting pretty locations in your area, I’m your gal.

Montana winter senior photos

Winter is a great time for senior photos if you love winter sports, cozy clothes, or you want your outfit to POP against the neutral/monochrome tones. I LOVE outdoor sessions in the winter, but it’s also a great time for indoor options too!

If you want to shoot outside in the winter, it’s important to scout out locations that don’t require a ton of elevation gain or hiking! For example, at Jaden’s Georgetown Lake session, we went to a fishing access site where we knew the road was plowed year-round. It’s also important to consider weather appropriate outfits and footwear.

Of course, I also LOVE when seniors book multi-season packages for a variety of looks and vibes…anddd for us to get to hang out more! Click here for an example of a multi-season senior session.

Montana winter senior session outfits: What Jaden Wore

Casual outfit

Jaden began the session in the cutest pair of jeans + a cozy sweater FROM HER DAD’S CLOSET. Isn’t she the best!? I loved this vibe because it seriously just looked like HER. I truly think it’s best to have at least one cozy casual outfit that reflects what you wear in everyday life.

Yellow dress + hat

Next, Jaden put on a cute flowy yellow dress and a hat. Flowy dresses create amazing movement in photos, and accessories like hats are great because it gives you more posing options! You can hold the brim of the hat when it’s on your head or carry it for more options of what to do with your hands, haha!

White dress, tan jacket, and boots

Back at Montana Tech, Jaden put on a white dress, tan jacket, and boots. This outfit was super neutral and went well with the tones of the buildings on campus. Outfits like this are PERFECT for your headshots because it gives you a lot of wiggle room with designing your outfits, and you can repurpose the close ups for things like Linked-In profile pictures.
