Cinematic + moody engagement session at Lake Como, Montana

These moody Lake Como Montana engagement photos are everythingggg — Caleb + Jayden are my dream couple. They came ready to PLAY in the freezing rain, and try to tell me we didn’t channel The Notebook with the last set!?

Caleb + Jayden

Jayden was interning in NC for her final internship. While at this, Jayden had a roommate who introduced her to Caleb. This was the beginning of our friendship. They talked all the time, went on many trips together, and made their friendship strong! It was soon after they both realized they had greater feelings for each other. On Thanksgiving 2021, Jayden couldn't go home to Montana. Caleb let Jayden come to his family for the holidays…and that was the beginning of their romantic relationship! They knew we needed to be together, and the rest is history!

Ahhh…I’m obsessed w/ the slow burn, and honestly? Their *friendship* really came through in these photos!

Caleb + Jayden's engagement session at Lake Como in the Bitterroot Montana was a dream. We got hit with freezing rain about twenty minutes into their session, but they embraced it and were rewarded with the most cinematic, moody, GORGEOUS engagement photos on the planet! Ahhhh, obsessed.

Montana winter engagement session outfits

Caleb + Jayden brought three outfits, and all of them had different vibes! Their first outfits were the most casual + weather appropriate, both opting for neutral long sleeves. The snow/rain combo made Lake Como SOUPY, so I loved that Jayden was willing to just wear her muck boots with her second dress haha! Then, finally, they changed into contrasting checkered patterns — I liked the homestyle farmhousey vibe with the insane freezing rain, it reminded me of The Notebook. You know the scene! At the very end, I had Caleb take off his over shirt for some contrast.

My couples ALWAYS ask me what they should wear for their sessions, and my answer is always the same:You should look and feel like yourselves. I’m always happy to help with inspo, but at the end of the day, if you wouldn’t wear it in any context other than your engagement photos? Don’t wear it. We’re here to tell YOUR unique love story, not pretend to be something you aren’t!

Lake Como Montana Engagement Session

I met Caleb + Jayden on the highway before we caravaned up to Lake Como because service is questionable at the lake, ha! They were beaming ear to ear before they even got out of the car — seriously two of the most joyful souls I’ve ever met.

We began our shoot past the boat ramp area at an overlook above the lake. I asked C + J to start their shoot in their most casual outfits because I knew this spot at Lake Como was the toughest to walk around in! I also try to steer my couples toward ending with their favorite outfits, especially if one partner is wearing a dress, because if we get a golden hour/glowy light, that outfit is the most fun to play around with in that lighting scenario.

Lake Como has restrooms on-site, so they were able to change outfits easily! Their second outfits were for ~forest vibes~ — I kept teasing Caleb because Jayden told me he “loves trees,” so I knew a nature walk through the pine trees would be a must with whatever location we chose. While it sounds silly, I totally get what Caleb means! I love the smell of Montana pine trees, the feeling of walking through the woods, and the way sun reflects through branches while shooting.

Finally, we ended on the frozen lake shore right as the fog socked in the mountains and the freezing rain came down on Caleb and Jayden. OMG — I know this sounds like a nightmare, but I was OBSESSED with how moody and cinematic the weather made their photos look!! Caleb and Jayden would be happy in a trash can, so losing the mountain views didn’t phase them at all. They just ran around together, danced, played, and took in EVERY moment. I just adore them.
