Montana Senior Boy Photo Inspo | Kade’s Fall Senior Photos

Introduction

I had so much fun taking Kade’s fall senior photos in Montana! There’s soooo much good inspo for boys’ senior photos in this post —  keep reading for location ideas, outfit inspo, and some great tips for your senior session!

Meet Kade!

Kade is such a gem —  he’s an excellent student, an amazing athlete, super kind + funny, and always has a great attitude. Kade is graduating from Granite High School in May 2021 and he’ll be attending Montana State University in the fall, and he has signed to play football for the bobcats. I’m so stoked that he chose to showcase different parts of his life and personality through these photos, like his high school football jersey, his sweet dog, his truck, a sweatshirt showcasing his future college, and of course a few photos with his mama! Kade’s senior session is a great example of how you can be super thoughtful with your senior session…but also quick! You can ask him, haha, we only shot for about an hour total. I’ll have you speedin’ through your different outfits and locations if you aren’t super into photos, I promise!

Montana fall senior photo locations

Seniors are alwayssss stressing over WHERE the heck to take their photos! I’ve got you. We really just need to think about YOUR life and personality, and work from there. If you’re super outdoorsy, we’ll keep that in mind with the location. If you’re super into a certain hobby, we’ll incorporate that. The good news is that I can literally shoot your session in a dumpster and it’ll look cool. We won’t…but we could.

Here are some ideas to get you brainstorming locations:

  • Nature: hiking trails, fields, lakes, woods, mountain views —  we’re in Montana, ya know!?

  • Your house/family property —  showcase where you grew up and your lifestyle!

  • Downtown —  show the town that you grew up in!

  • Your school! I know you might look at your school and think it’s ugly, haha, but it’s such a perfect way to showcase this season of life. We can make it cute, I promise.

Kade’s high school

We began Kade’s session at his high school so we could take a few photos in his football jersey. The lighting was amazingggg coming from behind the bleachers, I’m seriously obsessed with how this set turned out. Friday Night Lights vibes.

The family ranch

Next, we headed to Kade’s family ranch to shoot the rest of his outfits. Kade works on the ranch in the summers, so it felt appropriate for showcasing his lifestyle and there were a ton of cool rustic backdrops with the old buildings, equipment, and hay bales!

Fall senior photos —  why take your senior photos in fall?

Fall is amazing for senior photos, especiallyyyyy if you can catch the colorful leaves before the first freeze! The golden light is gorgeous, the rich golden tones with the (dead lol) grass, and it’s cooled off so you can wear cozier fits without sweating in your photos. Golden hour is earlier in the fall than it is in the summer, so you don’t have to shoot at 10PM to get golden light haha! Andddd you can shoot pretty much right after school if it’s a weekday and the lighting will be perfect.

Something to keep in mind: your yearbook deadline! Be sure to book at least a month before your yearbook headshot is due!

Senior boy outfit inspo

Kade had so many outfit changes hahaha!! I loved it. Soooo many seniors freak out/overthink their outfits, but just have fun with it. I shoot super quickly, so we can honestly get through quite a few outfit changes/tweaks.

Unpopular opinion: Don’t worry too much about being “timeless.” Photos are literally meant to document a moment in time and showcase the trends/fashion of the time period —  if your grandkids laugh at you later on, it’ll just be a fun lil inside joke.

Football jersey + jeans

Kade started out the session in his high school football jersey —  this is such a great way to showcase your favorite sport in your photos!

Neutral long-sleeve t-shirt

Having at least one neutral option for your senior photos is a must! This gives you so much leeway with designing your graduation invites and using the photos for other things, like a resume or profile picture. It also matches ANY background!

Patterned Crewneck

I love that Kade threw in a fun option! Don’t shy away from patterns or trendy items —  photos are MEANT to be unique and a time capsule!

College sweatshirt

I recommend that every senior that’s planning on going to college incorporate their new school somehow! A college sweatshirt is a great way to do this —  Kade rep’d the bobcats with his MSU sweatshirt.

Football senior photos

Incorporating your sport in your senior photo shoot is a great way to personalize your photos! It doesn’t have to be anything crazy —  bring a ball to your photoshoot, or just throw on your jersey for a few!

Your truck/car in your senior photos

Look back on what you drove in high school —  believe it or not, you’ll feel nostalgic for your old vehicle and it’ll be super fun to look back on later in life!

Senior photos w/ your dog

Take a few photos with your dog! They won’t be around forever —  In the future, you’ll love having photos with the pet you had as a senior in high school.

Don’t forget to take a few w/ mama!

If mama is tagging along during your senior session, take a few seconds to take a photo together! It barely takes any time away from your session and you’ll both cherish the photo. Be honest: Do you have many nice pics with her? Probably not, she’s usually the one taking them!
